Sarah was really excited this week when her school sent home a preliminary grade report for the first 6 weeks. She had been anticipating this with great excitement, because this is the first year that she gets actual grades, and not just check marks, to register her competency level. Up until this point, she has usually been pretty blase about how she does in school. In other words, she is not one to "toot her own horn." I would have to go through her binder and say "Wow, you got a 100% on your spelling test, great job, mommy is proud of you", and her response was usually a casual "yeah".
So when Jeff came home that night, she was more than happy to pipe up of her own volition "I got straight A's!!!!" Jeff loves moments like these with Sarah, where she gets really excited and happy about things. She is usually so reserved, we often joke she would make a great Royal Guard at Buckingham Palace. So after congratulating her and making a big deal out of it (which of course, it is!!!), he asked her what her favorite subject was. She replied "Science."
Now, for those of you that know Jeff, I'm sure you're picturing him standing there, with his chest swelled out, on the brink of yelling out "Hoooya!" (Since I'm unsure about what kind of rallying call science geeks have, I'll make it up as I go along.) You can't be a graduate of the Texas Academy of Math and Sciences and let that proclamation go by without acknowledgement. But instead, he said "But that's the subject you got the lowest grade (94%) in..."
You can't please all of the people all of the time. Mommy's just happy Sarah doesn't take after Daddy when it comes to Language Arts (That's what they call English, for all you science geeks!)
